Slow moving January

As normal at this time of year, I feel things go a bit slow. They are also a bit dull. So earlier today when out and about I took a little bit of a detour on my way home to go visit a national competition in show jumping.
Talk about dull!
It was not at all as uplifting as I was hoping for. Standing on the short side of either arena there was not much to see. So I quickly gave up scouting young horses, and their pedigrees, headed to a tack store and went home again.
I admit to not being patient visiting this event. But in all honesty I did get both sad and bummed out.

Cause this event was located on a top notch location, one of those that host a lot of events across both the in- and out-door season.
However, there really was no difference in between today's national event and the international ones I normally see myself visit. So I cannot really figure out the true meaning with an event like this.
In my region these kind of events are also quite common. All one need to do is to open up the Equipe app on the phone every week, and select where to go.
Jumping is a spectacular mix of courage, control and technical ability that makes it easy to see why it's one of the 3 equestrian Olympic sports. // FEI
Don't get me wrong, of course the horses and riders benefit from training and competing under great conditions.
But which path are we heading down with equestrian sport in general, and show jumping in particular, when a national 100cm training event [expect for the sizes of the fences] is no different than an international 1.30m?
I don't get it?
Do you?
